Part A: Membership terms

1. About these terms

These terms apply when you join or renew your membership of Friends of Perry Lakes Inc. (FoPL), ABN 63 109 073 174. FoPL is an incorporated association under the Associations Incorporation Act 2015 (WA). Our constitution (the association’s rules) also applies to every member. If these terms and the constitution differ, the constitution applies.

When you join, you also agree to our Code of Conduct and Privacy Policy.

2. Joining

Anyone who supports FoPL’s purpose can apply to join. You must be 16 or over to apply online.

When you join online, you agree to these terms, the Code of Conduct and the Privacy Policy. Your membership is accepted and starts as soon as you’ve agreed and your payment has gone through. We’ll email you to confirm, with your member number.

3. Membership types and fees

MembershipFee (incl. GST)Who it covers
Individual$30One person
Family$40One primary member, plus other people in the same household

Fees include GST. Your receipt is your tax invoice. The committee sets fees and may change them. Any change applies from your next renewal.

Family membership. The primary member’s email address is the main contact for the membership. Other people in the household can register their own email address to receive newsletters and event news. [Committee to confirm: does each adult in the household become a member with voting rights, or only the primary member?]

4. Membership period and renewal

Membership lasts 12 months from the date it starts.

Automatic renewal (optional). When you join, you can choose to renew automatically. If you do, we’ll charge the card you saved for the fee at the time, on your renewal date. We’ll email you [7] days before we charge your card. You can turn off automatic renewal at any time before then by emailing us.

Renewing yourself. If you don’t choose automatic renewal, we’ll send you reminders before your membership expires, with a link to renew.

If you don’t renew within 3 months of your renewal date, your membership ends, as the constitution requires. You’re welcome to rejoin at any time.

5. Cancelling

You can cancel your membership at any time from your account on our website. The Secretary is notified automatically, and the cancellation takes effect straight away. You can also cancel by emailing the Secretary at [secretary@friendsofperrylakes.org].

Membership fees are not refundable, including if you cancel part-way through your membership. If you have automatic renewal turned on, cancelling also stops future payments. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

6. What members receive

  • voting rights at general meetings, including the AGM [subject to the family membership question in section 3]
  • our newsletters and event news
  • invitations to works days, citizen science and other activities
  • free or discounted entry to social and education events
  • free or discounted refreshments at events
  • cover under FoPL’s volunteer insurance while taking part in approved FoPL activities

Your membership is personal to you and can’t be transferred to someone else.

7. Conduct, suspension and expulsion

Members must follow the Code of Conduct and the constitution. If a member breaches them, or acts against FoPL’s interests, the committee may suspend or expel them. It follows the process in the constitution: the member gets at least 28 days’ written notice and a chance to respond, and can ask for mediation afterwards. No fees are refunded during a suspension or after an expulsion.

8. Taking part in activities

Works days and field activities take place outdoors on a natural reserve. Please follow the Job Safety Analysis, wear the PPE provided or named, and follow the Work Coordinator’s directions. FoPL holds public liability and volunteer personal accident insurance for approved activities. Please tell the Work Coordinator about anything that could affect your safety on the day.

9. Photos and stories you share

If you send us a photo or story, for example through “Share your patch”, you keep ownership of it. By sharing it and ticking the consent box, you allow FoPL to publish it on our website, social media, newsletters and other FoPL materials, without payment. We’ll credit the creator by name, unless you ask us not to. Please only share photos you took yourself, or have permission to share, and ask before sharing photos that show other people, especially children. You can ask us to remove a photo or story at any time.

Photos may be taken at FoPL events and used in the same way. If you’d prefer not to be photographed, please let the organiser know on the day.
